HELO Orphanage in Haiti

I Created You

By Amy Huhn

I have always wanted to help other people. I have gone on multiple mission trips with my church and enjoyed them but nowhere near as much as I enjoy going to Haiti. I was talking the other day about how much I love being there because the children at HELO are so awesome. I love the atmosphere of the children helping each other out. I love how they pray before every meal. You can tell just how thankful they are. I realized that I want to get closer with God myself. I, too, understand how lucky I am and thank God for allowing me to be that way. At HELO, you just feel it, which might have to do with the house fathers being pastors, but it is truly amazing. I have had an awesome time every trip I have gone on, but for some reason this last trip I realized that's how I want to be and how I want my children to grow up.

I can honestly say Haiti has definitely changed me to become a better person and to be grateful for what I have. This song says it all for me:

So I turned my eyes to Heaven
I thought, “God, why don’t You do something?”
Well, I just couldn’t bear the thought of
People living in poverty
Children sold into slavery
The thought disgusted me
So, I shook my fist at Heaven
Said, “God, why don’t You do something?”
He said, “I did, I created you”
